Peter Lenz is a New York based drummer and composer. Originally from Austria he grew up in Straden- a town in the beautiful south-eastern part of the country. This region is known for its excellent white wines, great food and plenty of Marching Bands. Peter got introduced to all of this at quite an early age.
Starting out playing Pop and Rock Music he was introduced to Jazz by his teacher Karl-Heinz Miklin at the local music school. Still playing lots of Pop and Rock and now also Jazz he enrolled at the University of Music and dramatic Arts in Graz/Austria to studying with Howard Curtis from where he graduated in 2011.
After two years of living and studying in Rotterdam/Netherlands Peter decided to leave again due to a lack of good wine and food. (except for the one type of cheese they have). He moved to New York on the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship.
Peter graduated as a scholar student from the Master's Program at the internationally renowned Manhattan School of Music where he studied drums and composition with John Riley, Jim McNeely and Mike Holober.
Peter is currently a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop in NYC.
In 2012 his debut Album as a composer and bandleader was released on Unit Records Switzerland. Entitled It is but it's not it features his Quintet called Peter Lenz' Silent Flow.
His latest recording as a bandleader will be released as a Co-Release on Skirl Records and Session Work Records in April 2016. The Album features Brooklyn based saxophonist and clarinetist Chris SPEED and dutch musicians Reinier BAAS on guitar and Stefan LIEVESTRO on Bass.
